City Property Tax
General.
An annual property tax is levied on property owners in the City of Hills and Dales to help pay for needed community services such as waste removal and recycling, maintenance of the City’s common areas, road maintenance, snow removal, utilities such as street lights, an entrance irrigation system, entrance security cameras, general insurance, professional dues and fees and neighborhood communications and activities.
Tax Rate and Due Date.
The City of Hills and Dales property tax rate is currently $.20/$100 of your real estate assessed for taxation by the Jefferson County Property Valuation
Administration (PVA) on January 1 of each year. Property owners receive a City of Hills and Dales’ property tax bill each September, and payment is due by November 1. Property owners whose taxes are paid from mortgage escrow accounts receive a bill as a courtesy so that they will have the details of the tax assessment and the amount of the tax levy.
Exemptions which will Reduce Your Property Tax Bill.
A Homestead Exemption is available to property owners who are 65 years old or older. A Disability Exemption is available to persons classified as totally disabled by any public or private retirement system. Eligible individuals may apply for these exemptions through the Jefferson County PVA.
